I am not sure about Japan or UK, but in the Netherlands it allowed the 3rd prong of my US cord to contact their ground and worked great. Otherwise is a clever little holder arangement (but I only take what I need because I know where I am going). Please note that it is a plug adapter only (NOT a voltage converter).

This is a MUST HAVE power travel adapter-- it's small, sleek, easy to use, easy to pack, and dependable. It would also make a good gift for anyone who is traveling overseas! It's far smaller than any of the other 'traditional' power adapter kits- this one fits easily in a laptop bag or a backpack. I've used it outside the US, and recommend it highly.

This is the first and only power adapter kit I've used. It does a good job of compacting for storage and travel, and worked well for me as a US traveler to Spain.

Just returned from Italy. The adapter worked perfectly. There was only one occasion when I had a difficult time disconnecting the adapter from my camera charger. Other than that I was pleased with the product. My friend was able to use her hair straightener with the adapter while others on the trip could not use their straightener with their adapter.

I bought this for a trip to Europe. I really only needed one (VS 3) of the plugs (EU plug). The individual plugs feel a little fragile.
You may want to consider just buying the individual plug you need vs a big kit. I would also recommend bringing two plug adaptors on the trip with you. If you are charging camera batteries, cell phones, ipods, etc. Then you will most likely want to charge two at the same time.
Because this is only an adaptor make sure your electronic deivices are capable of coverting the 240V. OTher wise you need a power converter instead.
