Small BUT it does its job pretty well May 17, 2010 Late Bloomer (God Bless TEXAS!) I bought 2 of these wireless USB Adapter. One is for a 2005 Mac Ibook and the other for a 2006 Mac Powerbook. I notice the increase in speed on both computers. I tried Youtube and it used to take a long time to connect and if it does the video is always choppy. After connecting and using this Mini USB Adapter, Range of reception has increase and browsing the web is a lot faster and smoother. Hope this helps.
Unbelievable - but true June 28, 2010 Old Kraut (Virginia, US of A) This little receiver - no bigger than my thumbnail - does exactly what it says. And no setup - disabled the "b" built in wireless on an old Sony laptop, plugged this little guy in and off to the races I went.
A good wireless-G adapter. Forget about N. May 23, 2010 B. Schmidt (Canada) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
PROS: This is a quite acceptable wireless-G adapter. It has a nice compact size and compact price. The driver installed easily on both my iMac with OS X 10.6.3 and my PC with Windows 7.
CONS: This is NOT a good wireless-N adapter. When connected to my Linksys WRT600N (dual band) router I was only able to achieve file transfer speeds of about half of the wireless-G transfer speeds. Also, the adapter only supports wireless-N at 2.4 GHz; It does not support 5 GHz.
Fine for Windows7 - Not functional under Ubuntu 10.4 May 15, 2010 J. D. Morris (Berwyn Heights, MD USA) I'm gearing up to learn Linux. So I built myself a dual-boot Windows7 and Ubuntu 10.4 system. This wireless adapter works fine under Windows7 (after installing the drivers from the CD), but isn't even seen in the Linux environment. Nor did major Ubuntu updates change that. Nor did googling or forum hopping turn up a solution.
The box and instructions CLEARLY state support for Linux. Since I will be using the computer a floor away from the nearest wired connection, this is very disappointing.
Hopefully Asus will rush to fix this glaring misrepresentation by offering drivers that will just work.
Under Windows7, the connection is strong to my wireless-G router. The only drawback is that you need the CD for W7 to recognize it. So as portable as it is, if you're planning to carry it around you'll have to carry the CD, too, or transfer the setup to a flash drive.
5-stars for Windows7 performance, 0-stars for Linux performance.
Does not work with Mac OS 10.5.6 August 28, 2010 Kearney J. Taaffe (Austin, TX) So, my airport card died. I needed something to replace the card (which is interal and difficult to replace)
I saw one reveiwer say he got this working with Mac OS 10.6.3.
So, I order this and put the CD in my computer. The drivers are only for Mac OS 10.5. I try to run them, the program crashes as soon as its opened. No problem I thought, I used another mac which has Leopard (Mac OS 10.5.6) and lo and behold, the program crashes again, on that computer. I tried searching for 2 days and trying different realtek drivers. None of them worked.
So, I'm not sure how the other person got this to work with his Mac, but it failed for me. However, if you use Mac OS 10.4, this will work.
PROS
1. Small. About the size if a dime
2. Picks up wireless N very well, IF YOU HAVE MAC OS 10.4
CONS
1. Does not work with Leopard nor Snow Leopard like advertised
